Macramé på glas og flasker

Reuse wine bottles and preserving jars and upcycle them with beautiful macramé. Remove all labels from the bottles before making a ring at the top to which you attach the other cords. The instructions are the same whether you use large or small bottles or jars. Simply adjust the top ring, length and number of cords you use. You can also create long-lasting lavender flowers to decorate the finished bottles and jars.

How to do it

1 Remove all labels from a recycled jar. Cut cords: 1 x 120 cm and 9 x 45 cm.
2 Make a loop (magic ring) with 120 cm of cord and then wrap the nine 45 cm cords around the loop with a lark’s head knot. Gather the cords in pairs so that the 9th cord forms a pair with the ends of the magic ring.
3 Place the ring around the edge of the jar and tighten it around the top edge.
4 Close and tighten the ring with a knot. The ends form pairs with the 9th cord on the ring.
5 Knot the pattern using four cords – 2 x 2 from each side. Tie a square knot around the two middle cords with the two outer cords. Make the knot around 2.5 cm from the top edge, depending on the size of the jar.
6 Make square knots all the way around for a total of five knots.
7 Repeat a total of three times around the jar, each time with five knots.
8 Cut the ends straight all the way round 1 cm from the bottom of the jar.
9 Remove the knotted macramé from the jar and twist the cord with your fingers or a coarse comb.
10 Place a damp tea towel over the ends and iron them flat.
11 Remove all labels from a recycled bottle. Cut 120 cm of cord for the magic ring and cut nine 60 cm cords to attach to the ring using a lark’s head knot.
12 Follow the same instructions as for the jar (steps 2 to 10).
13 Make seven rounds with a square knot.
Knotted Lavender Flower Make the flower on a thick steel floral wire that is 50 cm long. Cut 3.5 m of macramé cord.
15 Wind the cord in two bundles of 1.5 m and 2 m respectively. Tie a square knot around the wire as shown in the picture.
16 Make another square knot 1 cm down.
17 Make the next square knot 2 cm down.
18 Tighten the knot and push it up off the wire to create loops on both sides.
19 Now repeat and make a square knot 2 cm down.
20 Push the knot up and twist it slightly, then repeat this process.
21 Repeat until you have used the entire 1.5 m cord.
22 Make half-hitch knots around the wire to create a flower stem.
23 Cut 20 cm of cord and place it as shown in the picture.
24 Make a macramé wrap knot (gathering knot) with the 20 cm long cord.
25 Finish the flower by cutting off the ends.
