Lovely shopping bags decorated with pastel dye sticks

Children can decorate these shopping bags beautifully with simple shapes, such as squares, triangles and circles. The combination of fabric paint and pastel dye sticks provides a lovely result and the children get a chance to work with different techniques. Find inspiration here!

How to do it: Place a piece of plastic inside the shopping bag to avoid smudging onto the back.
2 Outline the owl with a black fabric marker. Use simple geometric shapes: triangles, squares and circles.
3 Decorate the owl's body, beak and feet with fabric dye sticks.
4 Paint tufts on the head and stripes on the body using PRIMO textile paint in contrasting colours. Leave to dry.
5 Fix the paint with an iron (on a medium setting) for 5 minutes. Put a piece of baking paper between the fabric and the iron.
6 You can now wash the shopping bag at 30-40°C.
A tip You may wash the shopping bag prior to decorating to give a completely clean surface, ensuring that the shopping bag takes the colour well. You may make other simple designs using the same shapes: animals, people, flowers etc. The geometric shapes make it easy for young children.
