Illustration with watercolour marker and drawing gum

1   Sketch a design lightly with a pencil.

2   Draw details on the mushrooms with drawing gum by masking the areas that you want to stay free from colour. Then let it dry for approx. 10 min.

3   Draw individual lines with watercolour markers. Here, red is used together with brown to tone down the bright red colour.

4   Mix the colours together with the water brush, preferably using a little water at a time.

5   Add watercolour marker to a plastic palette. Mix several colours to achieve other shades.

6   Add water with a water brush to dilute and lighten the colour.

7   Paint with the diluted colour.

8   Add a little extra colour for shadows. Brown or black is good.

9   Blend the colour with a water brush.

10   Once the watercolour is completely dry, rub off the drawing gum with your finger.

11   Finally, draw outlines and minor details with a black thin tip.
